I love traveling and I love sharing my thoughts and destinations with others. I've been thinking of a way to do that, and what better way then here in my blog? I have decided to write more about destinations, travel tip, surfing and personal thoughts. I hope you will like it.
My very first travel story will be about Puerto Escondido, a small village on the west coast in Mexico who has stolen my heart.
Puerto Escondido - the hidden port, a small village in the municipality of Oaxca Mexico. There is something magical with this place, something you can't explain, you have to experience it to understand what I'm talking about. Many of the people who travels here end up staying for a very long time, and for some this becomes their new home.
A magnet for surfers and beach lovers. By day, you can surf, snorkel, dive, swim, tan, see dolphines or look for turtles. By night, try one of all the great restaurants, cafés or bars.
Zicatela, this three-kilometer-long beach in Puerto is the most happening beach, with cafes, restaurants and accommodations, as well as the legendary surfing waves of the Mexican Pipeline.
Not my favourite spot in Puerto, but I love watching the waves and the surfers here, it's crazy how big the swell can get.
, a small area 10 minutes away from Zicatela, with a super relaxed hippy/backpacker like vibe. The tiny beach town of La Punta has a main dirt road, a bit of a hippy vibe and surf that can get very big at the point. I really enjoy the waves in punta, but keep in mind that it can get very crowded at times. Here one will find very cheap accommodations, surf shops and cafés.
, popular for surfer beginners, swimming and snorkeling. Playa Carrizalillio is probably one of the best beaches in Puerto. Always calm waters and a relaxed atmosphere, just be aware of the 170 steps down to the beach. Here you can rent two sunbeds with an umbrella for around 100-150 pesos for a whole day. You can also find a few small restaurants with drinks, tacos and beers.
Bacocho beach, my favourite beach in Puerto Escondido. The beach quiet and has two beach clubs where one can go for drinks and good food, my favourite one is hotel villa sol. It's the perfect getaway and i spent loads of time here. It has it's own poolarea with sunbeds, umbrellas, a tennis court and a restaurant on the beach with great food and drinks. It's a very relaxing place and a great way to get away from all the tourists.
I would recommend to stay somewhere in Rinconada or Bacocho because it's calmer and more relaxing than Zicatela and La punta, but it really depends on what you are after.
Food and Drinks
- El Nene, my favourite place for mexican food. Try their fish taco (50-100 pesos), it's delicious!
- Spirulina, a small restaurant in Zicatela with a surfer vibe. Healthy and super yummy. Try some of their smoothies! They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Super friendly staff.
Actually, the restaurant is connected with Casa Corzo that has accommodations, yoga and massage as well. Great place!
- Pez Gallo, I love to have lunch here. Located on Bachocho beach. Tacos, burgers fish and much more. Real friendly staff as well.
- Lychee, a thai restaurant located in La Punta. Great vibe and tasty food
How to get here
Fligth to Mexico City folloed bya domestic flight to Puerto Escondido. It takes around 50 minutes between DF and Puerto. Vivaaerobus is the cheapest domestic fligth company.
Puerto is a pretty small destination but there is a lot of different things you can do here, and I think there is something for everyone. It's an beach town with a great atmosphere and I love this place. Hope this story gave you a better insight of one of my favourite places.
